Few names resonate across generations and continents quite like Shah Rukh Khan. Often referred to as the "King of Bollywood", the actor’s journey from Delhi’s theatre circles to global superstardom is nothing short of cinematic itself. At WAVES 2025, a landmark summit aiming to establish India as a global hub for media and digital innovation, SRK opened up with his trademark wit and wisdom reflecting on his early days, current mindset, and vision for the future of Indian cinema.
In a candid fireside chat alongside Karan Johar and Deepika Padukone, Shah Rukh offered an honest glimpse into his younger self.
"I believe when I was brash, overconfident, reckless and a lot more stupid. But I’m grateful for it. I wouldn’t have taken the leaps I did without that gutsiness. Thank you, young Shah Rukh Khan, for being so cool," he said, with a smile.
The 58-year-old actor also spoke about the calm he now embraces in life. "I don’t indulge in overworking or overthinking. When I’m not on set, I do nothing. I’m in a meditative state," he said, sharing how balance plays a key role in his present-day routine.
Cinema for Everyone
SRK didn’t just look back he looked forward. Championing access to cinema, he called for more theatres in smaller towns and cheaper tickets, hoping to make film-watching a widespread experience. “We need small theatres in small towns. Let people everywhere watch stories,” he urged.
WAVES 2025: A Global Vision
The event, themed “Connecting Creators, Connecting Countries”, sees participation from over 90 countries, 10,000+ delegates, and more than 350 startups across film, digital, and infotainment sectors. SRK expressed hope that WAVES would ease the shooting processes for both Indian and international creators.
What’s Next for SRK?
On the work front, Shah Rukh will next be seen in Siddharth Anand’s upcoming action-thriller King, slated for a 2026 release. The film will mark the big-screen debut of his daughter Suhana Khan, with Abhishek Bachchan in a pivotal role. While Deepika Padukone is strongly rumoured to star as the female lead, an official confirmation is awaited.
