14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi in 16-member Team India squad for England tour

The BCCI, on Thursday, announced that 14-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been included in the 16-member India U19 squad for the upcoming England tour.

In a post on X, the board also informed that Mumbai’s Ayush Mhatre, fresh from a standout IPL season, will captain the side, with Abhigyan Kundu serving as vice-captain. The tour, starting June 24, includes five Youth ODIs and two multi-day matches.

Teen Prodigy Suryavanshi Shines in Squad

Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the youngest player in the squad, earned his spot after a trailblazing IPL 2025 season with the Rajasthan Royals.

Signed for Rs 1.1 crore, the left-hander smashed 252 runs in seven matches, including a record-breaking 35-ball century against Gujarat Titans. Additionally, his explosive strike rate of 206.55 and 24 sixes showcased his fearless approach, making him a key player to watch.

Mhatre’s Leadership Test

Ayush Mhatre, 17, steps into leadership after a breakthrough IPL stint with Chennai Super Kings.

Initially unsold in the auction, he replaced injured skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and scored 206 runs in six matches at a strike rate of 187.27, and his knock of 94 runs highlighted his composure under pressure, traits the team will rely on during the England tour.

IPL Performances Pave the Way

Both Mhatre and Suryavanshi leveraged their IPL success to secure their U19 roles. Suryavanshi’s 252-run season included 18 fours and a match-winning half-century in Rajasthan’s final game.

Mhatre, despite CSK’s struggles, emerged as their third-highest scorer, blending aggression with consistency. Vice-captain Abhigyan Kundu, though absent from IPL 2025, brings experience from India U19’s past clashes against Australia.

Tour Schedule and Squad Composition

The squad will play a warm-up ODI on June 24 in Loughborough before the five-match Youth ODI series across Hove, Northampton, and Worcester.

Two multi-day matches in Beckenham (July 12-15) and Chelmsford (July 20-23) will test India’s red-ball adaptability.
