On Wednesday, Mohan Charan Majhi, the chief minister of Odisha, authorized the formation of a three-person commission to determine who was in charge of the over 1,600 mistakes found in the new textbooks for grades 1 through 8.
One day prior, a group of educators in government-run schools identified a number of flaws in the textbooks, including misspellings and the wrong names of notable figures.
The opposition then launched an attack on the BJP administration over the matter, claiming that it revealed the government's "extreme carelessness and utterly callous attitude" that has damaged Odia pride.
According to Bramhananda Maharana, president of the Primary Teachers' Association, over 1,600 mistakes have been found in these school textbooks that were created in compliance with the National Education Policy-2020 and are required for the 2026–2027 academic year.

He said that the Niyangiri hills of Odisha, which are dispersed throughout the districts of Kalahandi and Rayagada, were described as being in Jharkhand, while a picture of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly was used in lieu of the Odisha Assembly.

Majhi reviewed the textbooks on Wednesday and complained about the mistakes. He mandated the creation of a group led by the development commissioner, with a seven-day deadline for submitting its report.Majhi also gave the relevant authorities instructions to fix printing errors in the textbooks right away.
Naveen Patnaik, the president of the BJD, harshly criticized the BJP leadership in the state, claiming that "extreme carelessness and utterly callous attitude" were to blame.

The opposition leader wrote on X, "The detection of hundreds of errors in Odia textbooks for classes 1 to 8 exposes the BJP government's extreme carelessness and utterly callous attitude." "While this government fails to provide textbooks to children on time, the textbooks that have been provided are also riddled with numerous errors, shattering children's hopes for education," he stated.
According to Patnaik, the BJP government's educational system has totally failed. "How does the BJP government intend to shape the future of children?" he asked.
The BJD president also voiced worry about the textbooks designating Berhampur as a district instead of Ganjam and the "disrespect" shown to the state's notable figures.

"The insults inflicted by the BJP government on children's education from childhood are never forgivable," Patnaik stated.

The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) and the Directorate of Teacher Education worked with academic experts and instructors to modify the textbooks in accordance with NEP 2020.
Bhakta Charan Das, the head of the Odisha Congress, declared at a press conference that party members would visit the official residence of the mass education minister and gherao school on Thursday.
According to him, textbooks that cost Rs 50 crore to print are currently being thrown out because they are riddled with mistakes.The BJP is undermining Odia identity and impairing schoolchildren's future, despite coming to power in Odisha on the platform of preserving Odia identity, according to Das.

The recently released textbooks are a national humiliation, according to a statement from the BJD.
Arun Sahoo, a former minister and BJD MLA, claimed that the BJP government did not prioritize education.The government completely ignores qualified specialists in favor of hiring those who share its viewpoint. "The education system will collapse if this saffronization policy is not abandoned," he said.
Suresh Panigrahy, the state secretary of the Odisha CPI(M), called for the free distribution of error-free textbooks to all students in the state.
