70% of Keralas MLAs face criminal charges, and more than half are crorepatis.

According to a research by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), about 70% of current MLAs in Kerala have filed criminal proceedings against themselves, with crorepatis accounting for over half.
ADR and Kerala Election Watch undertook an examination of 132 sitting MLAs' affidavits and discovered that 92 members have pending criminal cases. Of these, 33 MLAs (25%) have announced serious criminal cases, including charges of murder and attempted murder.
According to the report, two MLAs have proclaimed cases of murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code, while three face charges of attempted murder under Section 307. In addition, three MLAs have declared cases of crimes against women, including one involving rape.Party-specific data show a high number of MLAs with criminal charges in all major parties. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) had 43 out of 58 MLAs (74%) facing criminal charges, whilst the Indian National Congress had 19 out of 21 MLAs (90%). Among others, the Communist Party of India had 44%, while the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) had 86% of its MLAs declare such situations.
On the financial front, 72 MLAs (55%) reported assets worth more than Rs 1 crore. The total assets of all 132 MLAs were Rs 363.78 crore, with an average of Rs 2.75 crore per MLA.

Among political parties, all MLAs from Kerala Congress (M), JD(S), NCP, and Kerala Congress have reported assets greater than Rs 1 crore. The IUML has 86% of its MLAs in the crorepati category, followed by the Congress (62%), and the CPI(M) (40%).
According to the survey, Mathew Kuzhalnadan of the Congress is the richest MLA, with total assets above Rs 34 crore, followed by Independent MLA Mani C Kappen, who has more than Rs 27 crore, and K B Ganesh Kumar of the Kerala Congress (B), who has more than Rs 19 crore.
On the other end, CPI(M) MLA P P Sumod has reported assets of roughly Rs 9.9 lakh, making him the least rich of those examined.In terms of demographics, 61% of MLAs have graduate-level or above education, while 36% have completed Class 5–12.
Only 11 MLAs, or 8%, are women.
According to the age profile, 70% of MLAs are between the ages of 51 and 80, with 30% falling between the ages of 25 and 50.
