At least 20 people were killed when an office building in Jakarta, Indonesia, caught fire on Tuesday. According to a report from the Associated Press news agency, police officials reported that the seven-story building was completely consumed by flames, causing dense black smoke to billow into the sky.
Five males and fifteen women are among the twenty fire victims, according to the AFP news agency, which cited Central Jakarta police commander Susatyo Purnomo Condro. He stated that a pregnant woman was among those slain.
In a Central Jakarta neighborhood, the fire also sent local workers and residents into a panic.
The fire has been put out, according to local Kompas TV, but attempts are being made to evacuate the structure because some people may be trapped.According to local news, the office of Terra Drone Indonesia, which supplies drones for aerial survey operations to clients in the mining and agricultural industries, is located in the center of the fire.
Senior Commissioner Susatyo Purnomo Condro, Chief of Central Jakarta Metro Police, told Kompas TV that the fire started on the first level and that workers hurried to put it out.
"There was a battery on the first floor that caught fire, then the employee managed to put it out, then it turned out that the burning battery spread, because the first floor is one of the warehouses," according to the report.
Susatyo also mentioned that smoke started to climb to the building's sixth floor as the fire became larger. He continued by saying that all of the discovered dead victims were brought to the Kramat Jati Police Hospital for identification.
