The rare and old idols of Bada Gopaljew Temple are finally making their way back home after more than 40 years, marking a momentous event for Subarnapur. The CBI found the idols, which had been stolen forty-two years prior, and they spent years in court custody. The long-awaited handover occurred on Wednesday, signifying a major restoration of the region's culture and spirituality.
Court Ceremonial Handover
In accordance with Special CJM, CBI, Binod Bihari Sahu's ruling, the court released twelve rare Ashtadhatu idols. The idols were given to the Sub-Collector and Endowment (Executive) official at the handover, which took place in front of the Subarnapur District Collector.
A Theft That Startled the Area
Over forty years ago, the idols were taken from the ancient Gopaljew Temple, which prompted a thorough inquiry. In relation to the theft, three people were taken into custody. One of the accused is still free on bail, while the other two have since passed away.
For the inhabitants of Subarnapur, the repatriation of the idols signifies not just the conclusion of a protracted legal process but also the resurrection of an emotional and cultural legacy. Now, devotees wait for the idols to be returned to their own shrine.
