The Odisha Assembly's special session lasted until midnight on Thursday. After extensive deliberations on women's participation in Indian democracy, a resolution to enact the Nari Shakti Vandan Act was enacted during this time.
Starting at 11 a.m. and ending at 12:45 a.m., the proceedings took place over the course of 13 hours and 45 minutes. Throughout the day, members of the opposition and treasury benches participated in in-depth discussions in the House.
Extended Conversation
The role and representation of women in the democratic system continued to be the key topic of discussion. Different political viewpoints on the implementation of reservations and related policy measures were reflected in the legislators' discussion on various areas of women's involvement."My party has been constantly working for the reservation for women," stated Sarada Jena, a BJD MLA. If any decisions were made to help women, they were made while the BJD party was in power. BJD has consistently backed women's rights and prioritised their advancement. Women's advantages are being presented differently by the current government, but this is not in their best interests. The government is portraying it differently when our party speaks out against it. In actuality, Naveen Patnaik and the BJD party consistently advocated for women's advancement, just as Biju Patnaik did.
Political Communication
BJP MLA Santosh Khatua responded to the opposition's stance by saying, "The Opposition was informed about when it was proposed." Twenty BJD party members had backed it when it was first presented in 2023. At the time, it was made quite clear that new seats would be reserved. It was connected to the delimitation procedure as well. They are now resisting the implementation of the delimitation process. The Opposition, however, did not protest it, claiming to have no MPs in the Lok Sabha. However, this is untrue, and we also provide proof to back up our assertions. The resolution was approved.
After a full day of discussion in the Assembly, the resolution on the Nari Shakti Vandan law was finally passed.
