Bangladesh reloads with speed and preparation for Pakistans encore

When Bangladesh last played Test cricket, the country was in a state of celebration. It was a momentous occasion when Mushfiqur Rahim became the first player from the nation to play 100 Test matches. Likewise, Bangladesh swept the series against Ireland 2-0.
However, that was back in November of last year—a lifetime ago by Bangladeshi standards. It certainly appears that way given the events that have transpired afterward.
Since those carefree days of the Bangladesh-Ireland series, a number of things have happened, including a player boycott, the exclusion from the T20 World Cup, and another change of board president. Bangladesh's first Test series in six months will begin this weekend when they play Pakistan in Dhaka. The BCB makeover has brought some stability back in the previous few weeks.

Since their historic series victory in 2024, Bangladesh's Test matches against Pakistan have taken on new significance. Many, especially the senior cricket players from Bangladesh, now think they can pull off the same feat in the next two-match series.
However, Bangladesh's pace-bowling leader Taskin Ahmed and skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto are not relying on nostalgia; rather, they are believing because of their form, preparations, and a fast-bowling attack that has been successful for some time.

Despite months without Test cricket, the team has been boosted by the ODI series victories against Pakistan and New Zealand in the past two months. However, regardless of the format, Bangladesh has always been a side that gains confidence from victory, and they have assembled a fairly competitive roster that includes all of their top hitters. Tanzid Hasan, who has recently performed well in the white-ball forms, was also chosen by the selectors. Amite Hasan, a hitter who has dominated domestic cricket in recent years, has also been chosen.

Shanto, the captain of Bangladesh, stated that they will have an advantage in the Test series because of their preparation, which he compared to the Pakistan series in 2024.
"In an interview with ESPNcricinfo, Shanto stated, "I think our preparation was what was best about the 2024 tour. I remember that our players were very well prepared." As a cricket player, I would actually claim that I had never witnessed such excellent preparation. We played some excellent cricket at the same time, in my opinion. I thought it was incredible how we recovered from 26 for 6 [in the second Test in Rawalpindi]. These two elements were, in my opinion, the tour's highlights.

Despite having a small part in Bangladesh's victory in Rawalpindi in 2024, Taskin still smiles everytime the series is brought up. It was his first over of the match against Abdullah Shafique in the second Test that gave Bangladesh the early advantage.
"I was having a great time bowling in Rawalpindi, especially the opening over. Taskin remarked, "I was able to execute the entire over the way I wanted." "I removed five balls and brought in the sixth. In fact, bowling under athletic conditions will be enjoyable for you.

"Because the pitches are so much better now than they were in the past, I am confident that it will be similar in Bangladesh this time. The bowlers are more likely to execute when they have some movement, and the added effort also comes from within."
Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who was named Player of the Series following his 155 runs and 10 wickets in the two Tests, will also have pleasant recollections from the 2024 series. It was Pakistan's best all-around performance in a Test series in 27 years. Mehidy's batting partnerships in both Test matches were his most significant contributions.

If Bangladesh wants to do an encore, this time at home, such contributions from Shanto, Taskin, and Mehidy will be required once more. Mehidy hasn't had a fantastic time since those excursions in Rawalpindi, and Taskin may be rusty when it comes to the red ball, despite Shanto's recent signs of solid form. Fortunately for Bangladesh, a few more players have demonstrated the ability to win games. Converting their white-ball form into a large-scale, team-based red-ball performance would be the litmus test, and if they succeed, it might be a turning point for Bangladesh.

"I believe we are getting ready once more. They have been training for a long time, even if they haven't been on the white-ball teams. If we put in a lot of effort over the next 10 days, I believe we can win the series this time as well. I don't want to look too far ahead. Playing quality cricket each day is crucial. We will have a successful test series if we can guarantee it.
Shanto's greatest accomplishment as captain is still the 2024 Test series victory. After that series, the next ten months were difficult, with losses to South Africa, Zimbabwe, India, and Sri Lanka.Shanto resigned as Test captain following the Sri Lanka series, and the BCB, already under pressure, removed him from the ODI captaincy. However, Shanto had taken over as captain by the time Bangladesh faced Ireland in their subsequent Test series, and he has subsequently started scoring again. He recently scored a century and a half-century in the ODIs against New Zealand.
"To be very honest, I am enjoying my captaincy," Shanto declared. "If I wasn't loving my job, I wouldn't be here. For a cricket player, going through a lot is pretty common. There's no use thinking about what you can't control; it's crucial to stay within what you can.

"Many technical aspects of captaincy, like as field placements and bowling changes, are crucial, particularly in critical situations. In the 2024 series [against Pakistan], I believe I performed those tasks fairly well. Now that the opposition has a group of new cricket players, there will be new plans for the new obstacles. The seasoned cricket players on the team, such as Mushfiq bhai, Mominul [Haque] bhai, and Taijul [Islam] bhai, are probably my greatest asset. They are always pleased to share their thoughts with me.

Shanto's fast-bowling attack, which recently dominated ODI matches against Pakistan and New Zealand, will be his primary tool against Pakistan. Along with Nahid Rana, Shoriful Islam, and Ebadot Hossain, Taskin will spearhead the assault.
"It is by the grace of the almighty that so many fast bowlers are coming up in Bangladesh," Taskin remarked. "Shoriful has shown great form, Ebadot is a vastly improved bowler, and Taskin is returning to the Test fold after December 2024." Rana has received the most attention lately. "We offer a wide range of rapid bowling. We have individuals like myself, Rana, Shoriful, Ebadot, Hasan Mahmud, and Mustafiz [ur Rahman]. We can all bowl spells that win games.

"We strive to make the most of the day when we are in a good rhythm since it is all about our rhythm. We have grown more reliable since our quality has increased. Bowling partnerships have improved significantly, which is a critical component of overall development.
The rest of the nation's fast bowlers were greatly influenced by Taskin's comeback. "I think it all started with my comeback during Covid days," Taskin remarked. "Everyone witnessed how perseverance and hard effort can accomplish anything. Everyone began to go the same route. In terms of the procedure, we became consistent. Off the pitch, we also have a close relationship. We discuss each other's experiences, eat dinner together, and go out together."
