Bengal Holds Repolling at 15 Booths Two Days Before Counting Due to Complaints

In West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district, where voting took place on April 29 in the second round of the assembly elections, 15 polling places are holding another round of voting today in response to accusations of irregularities received by the Election Commission (EC).
There are four polling places in Diamond Harbour and eleven in the Magarhat Paschim assembly constituency. The polling will run from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Reports from returning officers and observers of the two constituencies as well as "material circumstances" served as the basis for the repoll order.
According to reports, the poll panel got 13 complaints from Magrahat and 29 complaints from Diamond Harbour over repolling.Citing particular anomalies such electronic voting machine (EVM) malfunction, booth capturing, intimidation, or breach of voting confidentiality, political parties, candidates, polling agents, or even observers typically call for another poll.
A poll commission official told the news agency PTI that a decision regarding a repoll in the Falta constituency in Diamond Harbour would be made on Saturday because the assembly segment's report is still pending.
Bengal Repolling Politics
The Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency, which is held by Abhishek Banerjee, national general secretary of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), was accused by the BJP of widespread electoral malpractice in some polling places in both assembly seats.Subrata Gupta, the EC's special observer, was assigned to investigate the claims firsthand.
According to Kunal Ghosh of the Trinamool, the BJP called for new elections in Diamond Harbour and Magrahat because it is aware that it will be "defeated by a big margin"The mandate is against the BJP and won't change," Ghosh declared.
The opposition leader in the Bengal assembly, Suvendu Adhikari of the BJP, said that there had been "malpractices in several booths" to "favour" the TMC."We are satisfied with the poll body's decision to hold another poll," he stated.Bengal's Record Voter Turnout
The election watchdog said that the two-phase West Bengal assembly polls concluded on Wednesday with roughly 92% voter turnout, the highest in the state's history.
On April 23, 93% of Bengal's 6.81 crore voters cast ballots in phase 1, while 91% did so in phase 2.

In the past, 2011 saw the highest voter turnout in Bengal, with almost 84% of people exercising their right to vote.
Compared to 90% of male voters, 92% of female voters participated in the first phase of voting this year. Women's electorate participation was slightly higher than men's in Phase II.
Bengal Exit Polls' Predictions
The BJP is expected to win power in Bengal for the first time, according to at least five pollsters.According to Praja Poll's numbers, the BJP would win 178–208 seats out of 294 seats in the Bengal Assembly, up from 77 in 2021, while Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress will be limited to 85–110 seats, down significantly from 215. A majority requires 148 seats.
According to today's Chanakya exit polls for Bengal, the BJP is expected to win over 192 seats, while the TMC might only win roughly 100.
According to P-Marq's figures, the Trinamool will win between 118 and 138 seats, while the BJP will win 150–175.
According to Matrize, the BJP will win 146–161 seats, while Poll Diary predicts 142–171. The TMC will receive 125-140 and 99-127, respectively, according to these pollsters.

According to figures from Janmat Polls, the Trinamool Congress will win a resounding majority for the third consecutive year. According to the agency, the Mamata Banerjee-led party would receive between 195 and 205 seats, while the BJP will receive between 80 and 90. These numbers are extremely similar to what both parties received in the 2021 elections.
According to Peoples Pulse, the BJP would only be able to win 85 to 110 seats, while the Trinamool Congress will win 177–187.
