On Sunday, while riding a motorcycle back to Bhadrak, Jatra comedian and well-known stage actor Guru Prusty was involved in a traffic accident close to Chingudipur on National Highway 16. After being taken to the Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital, medical professionals pronounced him dead.
From an early age, Prusty gained considerable respect in the jatra community for his flawless comedic timing and commanding stage presence. He entertained audiences throughout Odisha while performing with a number of top troupes and earning recognition as a comedian
Artists and colleagues are finding it difficult to accept the loss of a growing genius, and his sudden death has cast a fog of melancholy over the Jatra fraternity.
Coworkers Remember His Contribution
Nirakar Dhal, a fellow Jatra artist, was shocked to hear the news. "It is undoubtedly a really depressing situation. I was at home yesterday since it was our day off. He remarked, "I came straight here after learning of his death while I was on my way to work."
Similar thoughts were expressed by Jatra actress Manu Dhal. "We came over to see him after hearing the news while passing through Bhadrak. Yesterday was our day off, so we went home before learning of his passing. He was meant to play a part in today's play, but we don't know anything about it," she remarked.
A Promising Talent Is Mourned by Family
Around 10 p.m. on Sunday, Prusty's family learned of the incident, according to a relative.
"We discovered that a traffic accident was the cause. He had been a Jatra performer for more than seven years. Before joining Indrabhaban, he worked for a year with the Biswadarbar troupe after beginning his career at Rangamal. Despite coming from the Mahanga region, he lived in Cuttack. According to the relative, he is survived by his mother, wife, and three-year-old daughter.
Prusty was regarded as a bright comedian with a steadily expanding fan following, and his untimely death has left a huge vacuum in the Jatra community.
