On Thursday, the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack were devastated by the Kalbaisakhi rain. After being struck by lightning, three people were left in critical condition. Hoardings collapsed in several places due to strong winds.
A car and a bike were damaged after becoming trapped beneath the collapsed structure, but no casualties were recorded. Individuals in the vicinity were able to safely evacuate in time.
"The iron hoarding was put up temporarily but it collapsed," a local resident stated. It was installed around ten days ago. Fortunately, nobody was there because everyone had already sought shelter when the rain began.A hoarding at Satichaura Chhak, which had been dangling in a precarious position, collapsed and was observed lying over a coconut tree at the time of reporting in a similar incident in Cuttack.
Three People Are Hurt by a Lightning Strike
In a different incident, lightning struck a family in Bhubaneswar's Niladri Vihar slum, critically injuring three of them. They were transferred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for treatment as their condition became critical.
The statewide weather alert is still in effect.
Rain and thunderstorms are expected throughout Odisha on Friday, according to the Meteorological Department's advisory. The districts of Gajapati, Rayagada, Mayurbhanj, and Balasore are under an orange warning due to the possibility of thunderstorms with strong winds.The remaining districts are under a yellow alert due to the potential for rain and thunderstorms. According to officials, the weather may change after 8:30 am, but the state's western and coastal regions may still be extremely hot, with temperatures expected to reach much higher.
