Ajay Gupta, a business associate of Saurabh Luthra, the proprietor of the Goa nightclub where a fatal fire occurred a few days ago, made his first statement on Wednesday following his arrest by the Delhi Police.
As Ajay Gupta was being led out of a car by the Delhi Police, a number of media representatives surrounded him and questioned him about the fire, the nightclub's safety measures, and the owners' whereabouts.
"I am merely a companion. After being inundated with inquiries, Gupta declared, "I don't know anything."
On the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, a fire at "Birch by Romeo Lane," a well-known nightclub in Goa's Arpora, claimed the lives of at least 25 people, five of whom were foreigners. The nightclub's two main proprietors, Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra, took an IndiGo trip to Phuket, Thailand, shortly after the fire.
Before Ajay Gupta was eventually taken into custody in Delhi, they were the subject of an Interpol Blue Corner Notice and a Look Out Circular (LOC).
Gupta will now be transported by air to Goa for additional interrogation in the matter.
Here are some significant advancements in the lawsuit thus far:
- Brothers escaped to Thailand: Just hours after the fire, the Luthra brothers took an IndiGo aircraft from New Delhi to Phuket at 5.30 am on Sunday, according to officials. In order to geolocate Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra and expedite their deportation based on an arrest warrant, Indian investigative agencies are currently in contact with Thai authorities.
- There is a blue-corner notice: According to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Varsha Sharma, LOCs were issued against British citizen Surinder Kumar Khosla and Ajay Gupta, and an Interpol Blue Corner alert is in force against the brothers.
- A portion of Luthra's Instagram story stated, "In this hour of irreparable sorrow and overwhelming distress, the management stands in unwavering solidarity with the families of the deceased as well as those injured, and conveys its heartfelt condolences with utmost sincerity."
Bulldozer action on a beach cottage in Goa: Following the fatal incident, Goan authorities razed Romeo Lane, a Vagator beach shack owned by Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra. Prior to that, another club in Assagao's Romeo Lane chain was sealed, according to news agency PTI. Due to disagreements between the two properties, legal action has been taken against them. - A club constructed without a building permit? Roshan Redkar, the head of the Arpora panchayat, stated that the nightclub was constructed without a construction license as the investigation into the incident grew more intense. Eyewitnesses at the scene earlier claimed to have seen pyroguns used during a dance performance at the club that started the fire. Witnesses told HT that the fire was started when the device's fireworks struck the thatched roof made of bamboo and fiber sheets.
