The new tourist season for those who enjoy the outdoors began on Saturday when the Kuldiha Wildlife Sanctuary in Balasore, Odisha, opened to visitors. With the release of deer from Nandankanan Zoological Park into the forest area, the sanctuary is launching a new attraction this year that allows visitors to see the animals in their natural environment.
The Gadasimulia and Mechkund waterfalls will reportedly also be open to tourists this year, adding to the sanctuary's allure. It is anticipated that the relocation will enable tourists to take in the breathtaking scenery of these natural locations, which are some of the reserve's main draws.
Restricted Facilities In contrast to Similipal
Despite its opening, Kuldiha's tourism has apparently lagged behind that of adjacent Similipal National Park, which has superior infrastructure and visitor amenities. In contrast to Kuldiha, which has a single gate for both access and leave, Similipal has multiple entry and exit points and occasionally permits activities within the park. As a result, there are less options for travellers to explore the refuge and roam around.
It is also necessary for visitors to drive their own cars within the sanctuary. The ranger clarified that comprehensive plans could not be made due to a staffing deficit. Since it relies on the influx of the season, it is challenging to pinpoint the precise number of tourists to Kuldiha.
Official Opening by Forest Authorities
At 8:00 am on Saturday, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) conducted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to formally open the sanctuary gate.
“Our sanctuary opens on November 1st every year, and this year we opened the gates at 8:00 am,” stated Kuldiha Ranger Subrat Behera. To ensure that visitors have no issues, we have fixed the road that leads to the Nature Camp. To provide a seamless experience, our team members will lead guests. This year, the public can now explore two additional waterfalls: Mechkund and Gadasimulia. We will continue to use the same entrance and departure point due to staffing shortages, but guests will be able to enter, have a look around, and easily return.
