The Odisha Police's Special Task Force (STF) disrupted an interstate illicit guns enterprise in Bhubaneswar on Thursday as part of a significant pre-New Year enforcement effort.
Based on reliable intelligence, the STF stoppead a covert arms trade in Bhubaneswar and confiscated a sizable cache of guns that had been transported from Bihar's Munger district, which has a long history of producing illegal firearms.
One nation-made handgun, five country firearms, and seven live rounds were found by officials during the raid at Bankual, which is located inside the Badagada police limits. The STF carried out the raid after receiving specific information that Munger-based guns traffickers had come to the city to complete a deal before the New Year.
Pintu Kumar and Avinash Kumar, both Munger residents, have been named as the arrested suspects. Investigators claim that the two had been travelling to Bhubaneswar to boost their operations and had been selling illicit firearms to local crime networks. But when the STF crew caught them during the transaction, their scheme was foiled.
According to the authorities, the accused did not present any valid justification or supporting documentation for the weapons' possession. They were brought before a local court after being arrested, and the court denied them bail and placed them in judicial detention.
Both suspects will be placed on remand for additional questioning, according to STF officials. Investigators want to track down the guns' origin, locate possible purchasers, and reveal the larger network that makes it easier for illicit firearms to be transferred from Bihar to Odisha.
