In Om Rauts biopic "Kalam," Dhanush will play Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.

Actor-filmmaker Dhanush is all set to portray one of India’s most respected and inspirational figures, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, in a forthcoming biopic titled Kalam: The Missile Man of India.

The announcement was made by director Om Raut at the ongoing Cannes Film Festival, where the partial first-look poster of the project was also unveiled.

The poster, which features a silhouette of Dhanush alongside a missile launch, was shared by Om Raut on X (formerly Twitter), accompanied by the caption: “From Rameswaram to Rashtrapati Bhavan, the journey of a legend begins… India’s Missile Man is coming to the silver screen. Dream big. Rise higher.”

Direction and production team

Kalam will be directed by Om Raut, known for his work on Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior and Adipurush. The film is being produced by Bhushan Kumar, along with Abhishek Agarwal, Anil Sunkara, and Krishan Kumar. While the announcement has sparked excitement across the country, no official release date or further cast details have been revealed yet.

Second biopic for Dhanush

This marks Dhanush’s second biographical project. In 2024, it was announced that the actor would star in a biopic based on legendary music composer Ilaiyaraaja. Directed by Arun Matheswaran, the film is expected to showcase Ilaiyaraaja’s life and contributions to Indian music. The composer himself will reportedly score the music for the film. However, since the initial announcement, there have been no further updates on its development.

Busy slate of upcoming projects

Dhanush, who was last seen in Raayan, which he also directed, has a packed lineup of films ahead. His next theatrical release is Kuberaa, directed by Love Story fame Sekhar Kammula, set to hit cinemas on June 20, 2025.

Additionally, the actor is currently working on Tere Ishk Mein, a Hindi-language film directed by Aanand L. Rai, where he stars opposite Kriti Sanon.
