In the Champions League, Liverpool defeats Inter without Salah. Bayern and Barcelona triumph

Despite Mohamed Salah's absence, Liverpool defeated Inter Milan 1-0 in the Champions League thanks to a late penalty from Dominik Szoboszlai.
Without Mohamed Salah, Liverpool performed admirably, even from the penalty spot.
Liverpool's 1-0 Champions League victory over Inter Milan on Tuesday gave them a much-needed boost after leaving the Egyptian attacker in England. Chelsea lost, as Barcelona and Bayern Munich celebrated victories.
Dominik Szoboszlai scored the penalty in the 88th minute to give the team a 1-0 victory over one of the top-performing teams in the competition after habitual penalty taker Salah was benched from the squad due to his outspoken criticism of the team last week.

The fact that it came after a record of only one victory in six games across all competitions made it all the more meaningful for Arne Slot's struggling club, which climbed to seventh place and is now back in the running for a direct round of 16 berth. Inter fell to fifth place.
Ibrahima Konate's header in the 31st minute gave Liverpool's players the impression that they had taken the lead. It was disqualified for handball after a multi-minute video review because Virgil van Dijk had previously headed the ball onto Hugo Ekitike's arm.

After denying Liverpool a goal, VAR helped the visitors when it noticed that Florian Wirtz was flailing to the ground after Alessandro Bastoni tugged his shirt in the area. The penalty was converted by Szoboszlai.
The new star of Bayern shines
In a 3-1 victory over Sporting Lisbon, Bayern's 17-year-old midfielder Lennart Karl displayed an audacious bit of talent to maintain his high-scoring start to life in the Champions League, moving Bayern to second place behind Arsenal.
After handling a pass from Konrad Laimer in midair and then volleying a shot from a tight angle over two charging defenders and beyond the goalie, Karl scored his third goal in four Champions League games.

After Joshua Kimmich's own goal gave Sporting the lead, Bayern had a 12-minute, three-goal comeback. After Karl scored Bayern's second goal in the 69th and defender Jonathan Tah made it 3-1 in the 77th, Serge Gnabry tied the score for Bayern after going unmarked at a corner in the 65th.
Karl, who is widely regarded as the best young player in German soccer this season, became the youngest-ever Champions League scored for Bayern on his debut Champions League start in October.
Alphonso Davies, a Canadian left defender with a major knee injury, came off the bench late in the game for the first time since March.

Chelsea is defeated
For the first time in almost three months, Chelsea was defeated in the Champions League as Atalanta overcame a 2-1 deficit thanks to a goal from Belgium attacker Charles De Ketelaere in the 83rd minute.
Joao Pedro gave Chelsea the lead, but after their second defeat, they fell to 11th place, out of the top eight automatic qualifying spots. Atalanta moved up to third place with their fourth victory.
De Ketelaere's cross was headed in by Gianluca Scamacca to make it 1-1. De Ketelaere then drove in a shot that Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez had a hand on but was unable to stop.Yamal establishes a record as Koundé scores two.
Barcelona defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 thanks to headers from Jules Koundé three minutes apart.
The first goal came from Marcus Rashford in the 50th minute, while the second came from Lamine Yamal's pass in the 53rd. According to UEFA, Yamal now has 14 career goals and assists in the Champions League, surpassing Kylian Mbappe for the most by a player under the age of 19.
Ansgar Knauff's goal in a 21st-minute breakaway at the refurbished and only partially open Camp Nou stadium gave the visitors the lead.

Son watches the Spurs triumph
After his old team defeated Slavia Prague 3-0 on an own goal and two penalties in a match marred by a dispute over moving a rainbow flag in support of the LGBTQ community, Son Heung-min bid a belated goodbye to Tottenham as his former team climbed up to ninth.
Atletico Madrid defeated PSV Eindhoven 3-2 after Julián Alvarez scored his ninth goal in his previous nine league-phase games. Marseille defeated Union Saint-Gilloise 3-2 despite two possible equalizers being disallowed on video review due to slight offsides.

Monaco defeated Galatasaray 1-0 thanks to a close-range goal from Folarin Balogun. Olympiakos defeated Kairat Almaty 1-0 in Kazakhstan thanks to a single strike from Gelson Martins.
