India is appointed Vice-President of the International Anti-Money Laundering Organization (FATF)

The Financial Action Task Force (FATF), an international organization that establishes guidelines for preventing money laundering and the funding of terrorism, appointed India vice president .
For the first time, India, a member of the powerful international organization since 2010, is holding this position.
Following the plenary meeting at the organization's Paris headquarters, Union Culture Secretary Vivek Aggarwal was named vice president, according to an official statement.
Aggarwal, a Madhya Pradesh cadre Indian Administrative Service (IAS) graduate from the 1994 batch, has previously led the Indian mission to the FATF.

"Members approved the Priorities of the FATF under the incoming UK Presidency, and appointed Mr. Vivek Aggarwal of India as the incoming Vice-President of the FATF (July 2026-June 2027)," the FATF stated in a statement.
On June 17–19, delegates and observers from over 200 nations convened in Paris to explore risks to the integrity and security of the world's financial system.
Aggarwal will take over for UK national Giles Thomson, who has been in the position since July 1, 2025, a senior officer informed PTI.
When India's most recent mutual evaluation report was released in 2024, Aggarwal was working as an additional secretary in the Union Finance Ministry.The FATF praised India in the report, stating that it has created an anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (AML/CFT) framework that is producing positive results based on its evaluation of the nation's efforts to combat illicit finance.
