New Delhi: Indian shooters will benefit from being able to film at least one Olympic quota event in Los Angeles in 2028 at home. According to the 2028 Olympic qualifying pathway released on Thursday, the ISSF has designated the 2027 ISSF World Cup (rifle/pistol/shotgun) in New Delhi as an Olympic qualifier.
There will be twelve quota spots available for the competition, one for each of the twelve Olympic sports. "Our shooters will have an excellent chance to win Olympic quotas at home range. "We are eager to host the Olympic quota event that NRAI requested from ISSF," stated Pawan Kumar Singh, the organization's recently elected secretary general.
The ISSF World Championships in Doha next year will mark the start of the Olympic qualifiers. There will be 36 quota spots available. There will be 24 quotas available for the 2027 World Championships (rifle/pistol). Olympic slots for rifles, handguns, and shotguns will also be available during the seven World Cups. For Indian shooters, the Asian Championships (54 quota spots) would be the last competition to earn Olympic quotas for 2028. The qualification window will span from July 31, 2026, to May 1, 2028, and there will also be 12 slots from world rankings.
India competed in 15 shooting events with a formidable 21-person shooting contingent at the Olympics in Paris.Manu Bhaker won two bronze medals in the individual 10m air pistol and mixed team event (with Sarabjot Singh), while Swapnil Kusale won bronze in the 50m rifle 3P. The tournament was a huge success.
Hockey
Additionally, hockey's Olympic qualification was revealed. Twelve teams of each gender, including the host country, the United States, will compete in the quadrennial mega-event, as has been the case in every edition since the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
The top-ranked country in the FIH Hockey Pro League Seasons 2025–2026 and 2026–2027 will advance. The top team from each of the five continental championships that hasn't previously earned a spot as the host or through the FIH Hockey Pro League will also be eligible.
In addition, four FIH Olympic qualification competitions with eight teams each—two for each gender—will take place in early 2028. Each tournament's top two teams will advance, completing the roster of participating teams.
