Kendrapara settlements are being eroded by the sea, and the locals are facing fears about their livelihood and displacement.

In the Satabhaya area of Kendrapara district, where the sea is still moving closer to human settlements, coastal erosion has gotten worse, impacting livelihoods and essential services.
Over 30 families continue to live in Magarkanda, the sole inhabited village in the area despite increasing threats, while several other villages have already been lost to the sea over time.
Houses, temples, tube wells, and roads have all been damaged as the sea has progressively moved closer to residential areas and crossed the shoreline. For locals, who still mostly rely on agriculture and fishing for their livelihood, the effects have interfered with access to healthcare, transportation, and sources of revenue.

Concerns Regarding Rehabilitation and Livelihood
Given the severity of coastal erosion, the government has previously given some impacted families land for repair. Residents, however, said that a number of families have not yet received land and that those who have are having trouble moving and building homes.
"The government had provided land, but whatever we earn is spent on health-related expenses," a local resident stated. When our source of income is here, how will we save enough to move and construct a home?"We depend on this land for farming and are still able to earn something from it," remarked another local. But once we go away, how will we continue to support ourselves?
Administrative Reaction and Education
Over 25 youngsters are experiencing disruptions in their education as a result of the circumstance. Attendance is erratic because the closest anganwadi center is around 4 km away. Concerns about safety have been voiced by parents, who point to crocodile-infested rivers and muddy roads that make daily travel challenging."We have given them a colony and a place to stay," stated Kendrapara Collector Raghuram R. Iyer. In order for them to relocate and utilise the Anganwadi facilities there, we will provide them with further guidance. The department will investigate the issue in further detail.
To evaluate the situation and engage with the locals, district officials such as the Collector, Sub-Collector, District Child Welfare Officer, Tehsildar, and CDPO came to the hamlet. The administration stated that actions will be taken to guarantee children in the impacted area have access to education.
