A government school teacher in Madhya Pradesh's Shivpuri district was suspended after a video of him mimicking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and making sarcastic remarks about LPG cylinder prices went viral on social media, an official said on Saturday.
Saket Purohit, a teacher at the government primary school in Adivasi Mohalla Semarkhedi, Pohri block, was suspended with immediate effect on Friday night under the Madhya Pradesh Civil Services Rules, according to District Education Officer Vivek Srivastava.
Purohit can be heard in the film saying that rising gas prices will cause people to revert to eating rotis cooked on traditional stoves, narrowing the wealth divide. After the video went viral, Pichhore BJP MLA Preetam Lodhi filed a written complaint, prompting the district education office to launch an investigation.
In his complaint, Lodhi alleged that such remarks and mimicry of the prime minister and public leaders by a government teacher breached service conduct regulations and sent an unacceptable message to society.
Purohit was suspended after an investigation determined that his actions violated the conduct guidelines for government employees, according to Srivastava.
Purohit would be assigned to the block education office in Badarwas during the suspension time and would be entitled to a subsistence allowance in accordance with the guidelines, according to the official.
Purohit claimed that his suspension was unfair and that he was not given a show-cause notice or opportunity to defend himself."Action taken without a hearing is not justified," Purohit stated.
