"The decline in maternal mortality rate is one of the success stories of India," she stated in response to supplementary questions during the Rajya Sabha's Question Hour.
Patel outlined the steps the government has taken to care for expectant mothers under various programs, such as the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan. As a result of these initiatives, India's MMR decrease rate has now exceeded the global rate of decline.

As a result of these initiatives, India's MMR decrease rate has now exceeded the global rate of decline. The global decline rate is merely 48%, however our rate is 86%," she stated.
The minister pointed out that maternal mortality in India has decreased from 130 per lakh live births to 88 per lakh live births based on the sample registration system 2021–2023.
All I want to say is that we've done a great job. We're still working hard and will make sure we meet our SDG goals," Patel stated. The Centre under the National Health Mission has taken a number of steps to provide thorough prenatal care, prompt follow-up, and suitable management of high-risk pregnancies recognised under the PMSMA, according to a written response.
The ministry outlined the procedures and stated that on the ninth day of each month, the PMSMA offers a free, guaranteed, and high-quality prenatal examination by a specialist or medical officer.
To make it easier for private physicians and experts to volunteer for the PMSMA, the Centre has created a consolidated PMSMA Portal. Their information is sent to the appropriate state and district authorities after they register on the portal.According to the ministry, the district PMSMA Nodal Officers then organise and convey the necessary follow-up measures to guarantee efficient service delivery.
