Odisha cold wave: Bhubaneswars temperature drops by 9.6 degrees Celsius over ten days, with no relief till the weekend, according to the IMD

On Thursday, temperatures in Odisha's northern, western, and central areas dropped precipitously, continuing the state's severe cold wave.
Jharsuguda recorded a scorching 8.6°C at 5:30 am, according to data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), while several areas of Kandhamal and Koraput reported temperatures close to 5°C, which was one of the coldest spells of the season.
The harshness of the winter continues to worsen in the state capital. According to preliminary station measurements, Bhubaneswar recorded 13°C at 5:30 am, a sharp decline of 9.6°C over the previous ten days. According to the data, temperatures in at least 11 Odisha cities and towns were at or below 10°C.

IMD Predicts Two More Days of Extreme Cold
Dense fog and chilly northwesterly winds are predicted to predominate in the morning and late evening, according to the IMD, and the current conditions are likely to persist for at least the next 48 hours. The wider cold pattern seen this week, according to IMD scientists, is consistent with regional synoptic conditions affecting eastern India.

According to the department's extended forecast, winter intensity is expected to be substantial throughout Odisha through December 12, with an additional decline in interior districts.
Temperature Shifts Due to Western Disturbances
According to the IMD, a new Western Disturbance is anticipated to affect the western Himalayan region starting on December 13. Odisha may see a change in minimum temperatures if this system interacts with the plains. The minimum temperature in Odisha may change.
According to reports, the cold wave might significantly lessen after two days as the disturbance's effects on cloud cover and wind patterns alter the cooling at night. It did note that there will probably be further cold spells later in the month and that the winter period as a whole is still far from done.
A Widespread Cold Wave Disturbs Daily Life
In a number of districts, the drop in temperature has started to interfere with daily living. According to local field reports from Phulbani, Bonai, Koida, and other high-altitude areas, locals avoided prolonged exposure to bone-chilling winds, which resulted in scarce early-morning activity, decreased road traffic, and muted business hours.
On Wednesday and Thursday nights, there was noticeably less traffic in market areas, bus stops, and outdoor businesses, and many neighborhoods were quiet just after dusk.
