With minimum temperatures falling below 10 degrees Celsius in some areas of the state, a severe cold wave has tightened its hold over Odisha. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for several districts due to the current weather, warning that cold wave conditions are likely to continue over the next days.
With a minimum temperature of 3.1 degrees Celsius on Friday, G Udayagiri in Kandhamal district was the coldest location in the state, according to weather data. Phulbani recorded 5.5 degrees, while Semiliguda recorded 3.6 degrees. Chiplima had a temperature of 6.6 degrees Celsius, while Daringbadi, sometimes known as the "Kashmir of Odisha," recorded a minimum of 6.5 degrees.
The nighttime temperatures in Jharsuguda and Bhawanipatna were 7.1 and 7.5 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Issued a Yellow Warning
A yellow alert has been issued for areas of Angul, Jharsuguda, and Kalahandi districts due to the current cold wave conditions, where temperatures are predicted to be extremely low. The chilly spell is expected to last for the next six to seven days throughout Odisha, according to weather officials.
According to the Regional Meteorological Center's forecast, minimum nighttime temperatures may stay at 12 degrees Celsius throughout this time, while maximum daytime temperatures are predicted to hover around 29 degrees Celsius.
In the meanwhile, people in the state are preparing for the cold by adopting preventative measures. As temperatures continue to drop, many people have modified their daily schedules, depending on warm clothing and frequent exercise to stay healthy.
