Sam Altman wants his $50,000 reimbursement after waiting 7.5 years for Tesla to deliver.

A number of screenshots of emails that Sam Altman provided showed his correspondence with Tesla. The OpenAI CEO said in his post that despite having reserved the vehicle more than seven years prior, he had not yet received it. He asked for a reimbursement of $50,000, which he had spent for the car, in one of his emails.
Altman writes, "A tale in three acts." A 2018 Tesla reservation confirmation is displayed in the first screenshot. "The payment for your reservation has been successfully received. The email said, "Your reservation has now been fully paid for."
Altman's subsequent email in 2025 shows him requesting a reimbursement. Hello, may I please cancel my reservation? Would you kindly give me my $50,000 back?

The email address from which the OpenAI CEO first obtained the confirmation was no longer operational, as seen in the third screenshot.
Altman stated in an update, "I was really thrilled about the car! I also get the concept of delays. However, 7.5 years has seemed like a long wait.
With more than 2.5 million views, Altman's post has gone viral. People have also responded to it in a variety of ways.

What was said on social media?
"Why cancel after waiting 7.5 years when the final version is going to be unveiled at the end of the year," someone asked in a remark. "Sam, the 7.5-year wait is brutal, but Tesla's chief designer confirms the Roadster will unveil late 2025... 0-60 under 2s, 620mi range, and top speed of 250+mph," another person wrote. For a one-second acceleration, SpaceX thrusters are optional. Rethink the reimbursement?
"At this point, it's vintage before it even ships," a third person commented. "What's $50K between two billionaires anyway?" a fourth person wrote.
The Roadster is referred to be a "all-electric supercar" on Tesla's official website. The electric car "maximises the potential of aerodynamic engineering—with record-setting performance and efficiency," according to the manufacturer.
