Speaking candidly about the difficult reality of filmmaking, Anurag Kashyap "Saqt nafrat hai mujhe Wasseypur se."

To the amazement of his ardent admirers, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who is renowned for his unvarnished storytelling and unafraid viewpoints, recently made a startling remark regarding one of his most well-known films, Gangs of Wasseypur.
Why Anurag despises Wasseypur's Gangs
"Mujhe Wasseypur se saqt nafrat hai," Anurag stated in a podcast accompanying a digital documentary. Aadmi bolta hai na jab bhi koi: "Sir Wasseypur," man karta hai joota utarkar maru (I detest Wasseypur to the core). Every time someone brings it up, I want to kick them out of my shoe.
The film's reception by viewers at its first release is the source of the filmmaker's annoyance, not the movie itself. Anurag went on to say that his career path and means of subsistence might have been different if audiences had embraced his work when it was important.

"Tab to tumne dekhi nahi, jab wasseypur release hui." Dar chali thi theatre mein chaar din. Tiger Zinda Hai aa gayi phir movie theatre mein. Uss image ne 22 crore kamaye chaar din. Aap chahte ho ki main dobara banaun, aur uss film ko lekar aap chahte hoi, dude? Kyu banaun main? Is kyu banaun main tumhare liye? To mera ghar usse chal raha hota, meri film cinema hall mein jaakar dekhte.Chal raha hai, mera ghar tumhari wajah se nahi. To make the movie Banane aaye ho, Fayda nuksaan ke liye. (No one watched Wasseypur when it was released. Before Ek Tha Tiger took over, it was only in theatres for four days. In those four days, it made ₹22 crore, but the studio declared it a failure. Would you like me to produce another one now? Why ought I to prepare it for you? My home would have been a hive of activity if you had seen my movie in cinemas. However, it's not, and you're in the wrong position if you're doing films purely for financial gain', Anurag stated.

The Gangs of Wasseypur's Legacy
Gangs of Wasseypur, which was released in two parts in 2012, is regarded as a seminal work of Indian film. The criminal story, which is set in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, details the long-running conflict between coal mafia groups. The film reinvented Indian gangster cinema with its grim realism, dark humour, and memorable characters, particularly Sardar Khan (played by Manoj Bajpayee) and Faizal Khan (played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui). Although it didn't do well at the box office when it was first released, it eventually rose to cult status and became a favourite among critics and moviegoers everywhere.
Nishaanchi, Anurag's most recent film, embraces a more "filmy" storytelling scale while simultaneously returning to his signature raw storytelling.Alongside Vedika Pinto, Monika Panwar, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, and Kumud Mishra, the movie features newbie Aaishvary Thackeray in a dual role. At the box office, it brought in 1.3 crore rupees.
