India's concerns about recent US military actions in the Gulf that killed three Indian seafarers were brought up directly with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Thursday by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, highlighting New Delhi's strong opposition to attacks that impact commercial shipping.
After the discussion, Jaishankar stated that India had expressed its disapproval of the incident and emphasised that military operations that put civilian maritime commerce at danger were unacceptable. He wrote on X, "Such lethal actions against commercial shipping are not justified."
Three ships carrying Indian crew members became entangled in fighting off the coast of Oman this week, prompting the diplomatic intervention. On Wednesday, three Indian sailors lost their life in one of the events.The events took place in the context of growing hostilities in the Gulf. Earlier, US President Donald Trump accused Iran of using drones to target Indian-affiliated ships leaving the Strait of Hormuz, calling the suspected strikes "totally unacceptable."
In a tweet on Truth Social, Trump accused Iran of carrying out a drone attack on Indian ships passing through the vital canal and urged Tehran to take immediate action to stop similar attacks.
