According to reports, India's ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has begun answering texts on his phone. Iyer had a rib cage injury and a burst spleen during the third ODI match against Australia. India's T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, gave a positive update on Shreyas' health during a press conference on Tuesday. He stated that while the batter would be monitored for a few days, he is responding and conversing on the phone, which is encouraging. Concerns over Shreyas' health have subsided since he was moved out of a Sydney hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on Monday and is now in a stable state.
"I called him the moment I learnt he was hurt. After learning that he was missing his phone, I called Kamlesh Jain, the physiotherapist. But for the past two days, I have been speaking with him. He has been responding. Agar woh reply kar raha hai implies that he is steady if he can respond on the phone. The doctors have already arrived, and everything appears to be in order. For a few days, they will keep him under watch. Ahead of the first Twenty20 International match against Australia, Suryakumar stated in the pre-match briefing that "he has been replying and talking to everyone, which is good."
When Iyer tried a challenging running catch to get rid of Alex Carey off Harshit Rana's bowling, he injured his lower left rib cage. Even though the physio helped him leave the pitch at first, his condition worsened later as his vital signs declined, necessitating an emergency hospital stay.
He was taken to the intensive care unit (ICU) for close observation after testing showed internal bleeding from a splenic laceration.
It is said that in his board communication, Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, the chief of medical services for the BCCI, praised the on-field medical professionals for their prompt and effective response, which prevented a potentially dire situation.
According to sources, Iyer's family is anticipated to visit Sydney shortly to support him throughout his ongoing recuperation.
