Tadoba tigress moved to Sahyadri Reserve as part of a conservation effort

Nagpur As part of breeding and conservation efforts, a tigress was moved from the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve to the Sonarli acclimatization enclosure at Chandoli National Park in Maharashtra's Sahyadri Tiger Reserve, according to forest officials.
T7-S2, a 2-year-old tigress, was apprehended on Monday night in Tadoba's Kolara core range and her health was assessed. According to a statement released by the forest department on Tuesday, veterinary examinations verified that she was suitable for relocation.
"Tigress T7-S2 is a juvenile female from the Kolara core range that is dispersing. "She is robust, healthy, and behaviorally appropriate for relocation," stated Dr. Prabhunath Shukla, field director of the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve.

Before the tigress is eventually released into the open forest, the "soft release" enables her to adapt to the topography, prey base, and environmental conditions inside a protected enclosure, according to the statement.
The Wildlife Institute of India provided scientific guidance for the procedure, and a scientist and a field biologist kept an eye on her behavior and acclimatization.
According to Shukla, the capture was carefully carried out inside the tigress's wide home range, which crosses over into the Kolara and Tadoba core ranges. According to him, this operation is a component of a larger initiative to restore a healthy breeding population in the Sahyadri Tiger Reserve. The goal of introducing this genetically unique lineage is to increase the tiger metapopulation's long-term survival in Maharashtra by preventing inbreeding.

This is the second tigress that Tadoba has sent to STR.
"The soft release of the second female tigress from Tadoba under Operation TARA is an important step in Sahyadri's tiger recovery mission," stated Tushar Chavan, Field Director of STR. The tigress is healthy, and Chandoli offers a safe haven with a enough supply of prey.
"Maharashtra's tiger recovery project is being strengthened by the integrated conservation activities of Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve and Sahyadri Tiger Reserve under Operation TARA. Our field teams' commitment and expertise are demonstrated by the successful introduction of the second female tigress, according to Principal Chief Conservator of Forests M Srinivas Reddy.
