US President Donald Trump complimented the Secret Service for their bravery in resolving the threat and claimed that the shooter who caused pandemonium at the White House press dinner had numerous weapons.
Trump referred to the gunman as a "lone wolf" but stated that police are now examining every possibility, so nothing is definitive.
Trump described the shooting suspect as his "would-be assassin" and expressed gratitude to the Secret Service for stopping him. According to him, the suspect also shot a security guard during the media event.
The US president shared a video of the man sprinting past a security barrier while Secret Service agents chased after him."He was a very sick man," Trump remarked about the gunman. "The room was quite safe. He was fifty yards distant when he charged. "The Secret Service responded quickly," Trump continued.
Trump, however, contradicted himself when he stated that "it's not a particularly secure building.""One officer was shot, but he was spared because he was clearly wearing an excellent bulletproof vest. "I will say, you know, it's not a particularly secure building after looking at all the conditions that occurred tonight," he remarked.
The crowd huddled in disbelief as the US president was swiftly hustled off stage and via a back curtain by Secret Service agents brandishing their weapons amid the turmoil.Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., whose uncle, President John F. Kennedy, was assassinated in Texas in 1963, was also observed being hurried out of the ballroom.
Trump described his thoughts as the gunfire erupted, stating that at first he thought a tray was being dropped and that the sound was "quite far away." However, he claimed that the First Lady was "very cognisant" that there had been a shooting. The president recalled his wife telling him, "That's a bad noise," and stated, "I think she knew immediately what happened."
