Heavy rainfall is expected to lash several districts of Odisha on the 27 and 28 May, following days of prolonged hot and humid conditions. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal will contribute to this spell of intense rain.
The weather department stated that conditions are favourable for a low-pressure system to form over the west-central and adjacent northern Bay of Bengal. Within two days of its formation, it is predicted to become more intense and bring heavy rainfall to the state, along with the possibility of thunderstorms occurring at a few places.
Southern Odisha to be Most Impacted
Under this system, southern Odisha is expected to receive the most amount of rainfall, with forecasts highlighting heavy to very heavy rain for the districts of Malkangiri, Rayagada, and Koraput.
“Rainfall activities will begin to increase starting from the 27th and 28th of this month. Odisha is expected to receive light to moderate rainfall over most places, but southern districts may witness intense rainfall over one or two places,” said Manorama Mohanty, Director of the IMD Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar.
