During his visit to Japan as part of a broader Asian tour, US President Donald Trump danced with sailors and Navy officials aboard the USS George Washington on Tuesday. He performed his signature YMCA dance after giving a scathing speech to American troops aboard the aircraft carrier.
Service members who had waited for their commander-in-chief for hours sung along to "Sweet Caroline" and "Party in the USA" when Marine One landed, and the Top Gun theme was played via the speakers.
As they arrived at the Yokosuka Naval Base, Trump was accompanied by Sanae Takaichi, the country's new prime minister.
The Republican leader complimented the sailors on their "good looking" appearance during his address.
"It comes from you people, incredible people, good-looking people, too many good-looking people," Trump continued, addressing the audience consisting of both Japanese and American representatives.
He commented, "I don't like good-looking people," "I never liked good-looking people, I'll be honest with you," stating, "Never admitted that before."
Additionally, Trump stated that the United States and Japan will collaborate on "making ships" as Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Tuesday to increase shipbuilding cooperation.
Trump and Takaichi met earlier that day in Tokyo, when they signed trade and vital minerals agreements and reaffirmed their commitment to bolstering Japan's security capabilities.
According to the White House, the US president called Takaichi a "great leader" and declared her intention to nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize.
During his five-day Asian visit, Trump made his second stop in Japan. His administration's regional diplomacy efforts were further strengthened when he signed the Cambodia-Thailand peace treaty and travelled to Malaysia to attend the 47th ASEAN Summit prior to his arrival in Tokyo.
