On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump said that Washington is negotiating a new trade agreement with India. In light of the high U.S. tariffs on Indian exports, he made these comments during continuing trade talks between the two nations.
Trump stated, "I'm doing a trade deal with India, and I have great respect and love for Prime Minister Modi," at a speech in South Korea prior to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. We get along really well.
As further sanctions over India's continued oil trading with Russia, the Trump administration levied taxes of up to 50% on Indian imports in August.

India has continuously defended its right to obtain reasonably priced energy for its people, arguing that market forces and national security needs, not geopolitical alignment, dictate its energy purchases.

Trump's upbeat tone contrasts with his past cautions that India's oil purchases are linked to trade concessions. In Seoul, he declared, "I love and respect Prime Minister Modi very much." "We get along really well."
In addition, he recounted a dramatic meeting with leaders of Pakistan and India, asserting that his intervention averted a possible conflict.

"These two countries have nuclear weapons. and they were putting a lot of effort into it," Trump claimed. "We can't make a trade deal with you... you're starting a war with Pakistan," I told Prime Minister Modi over the phone. I then made the identical call to Pakistan. "No, you should let us fight," they both said. However, they stopped arguing after two days when they called back and said, "We understand."
