Alerts have been issued for coastal and southern Odisha as the well-known low-pressure region over the Bay of Bengal has deepened into a depression.
The system is steadily strengthening and is predicted to deepen into a depression over the course of the following day, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Details about the impending landfall
Although the precise location of the depression's landfall is yet unknown, it is currently travelling west-northwest. Odisha is predicted to see severe to extremely heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and isolated thunderstorms, whereas coastal Andhra Pradesh is likely to be more affected by the cyclone's centre.
A number of districts are under a weather alert issued by the Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Centre. Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khordha, Puri, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri are all under a yellow warning on October 27.
Additionally, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, Puri, and Ganjam have been placed under an orange warning for heavy rainfall on October 28. Mayurbhanj, Balasore, and Bhadrak were also under orange alert on October 29.
In addition, IMD officials have warned of thunderstorms and lightning in a few regions, with wind gusts of 60 to 70 kmph. Since October 26, fishermen have been strongly cautioned against going out to sea due to the likelihood of choppy seas.
As it advances inland, the weather system is expected to steadily deteriorate starting on October 30. Because heavy rain can cause localised floods, residents and authorities have been advised to stay vigilant and take precautions, particularly in low-lying and coastal locations.
