Vijay-Path: Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhars journey from child artist to the new Thalapathy of Tamil Nadu politics

As the new "Thalapathy" of Tamil Nadu politics, Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar has now solidified his position of power. His TVK party has become the single-largest party in the Tamil Nadu Elections 2026, according to current trends. A significant change in the state's political environment is indicated by the new party's lead of about 100 seats, which has forced the DMK to third place in the seat count.
Vijay's political debut was initially viewed with suspicion in a state long dominated by Dravidian giants, the DMK and AIADMK. He was ridiculed, confronted legal challenges, and written off as just another movie star experimenting with politics. However, as exit polls started to surface, the story quickly shifted, shocking both critics and onlookers.

Actor Vijay: "Thalapathy" to Child Artist
From a young artist, Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar, better known by his stage name Thalapathy Vijay, has grown to become one of South India's highest-paid and most powerful celebrities. His reported net worth, after more than three decades in the workforce, is over Rs 600 crore. Vijay's ascent has been characterised by perseverance and reinvention, under the early guidance of his father, director S. A. Chandrasekhar.
At the age of ten, he had his acting debut in the 1984 movie Vetri. In 1992, he made his feature film debut in Naalaiya Theerpu. Poove Unakkaga, which made him a romantic hero and greatly increased his fan base, was his breakthrough.

Vijay reportedly made as little as Rs 5,000 each movie during his early years. He gradually gained a devoted following despite a sluggish beginning and a few disappointing efforts, eventually becoming a popular mass hero.
The Emergence of a Mass Icon, Jana Nayagan Vijay
Vijay's image as a reliable box office powerhouse has been strengthened by the fact that his films have continuously drawn family audiences. Strong support from production companies and a gradual ascent to superstardom were guaranteed by this broad appeal.
From "Ilaiyathalapathy" to "Thalapathy," his on-screen persona changed in tandem with his career, reflecting his expanding cultural and fan-driven influence. Vijay, who was born in Chennai on June 22, 1974, saw significant development in the late 1990s and early 2000s with films like Ghilli, Love Today, Thullatha Manamum Thullum, and Kushi.

Later, he produced significant commercial hits like Thuppakki, Kaththi, Mersal, Master, Beast, Leo, and The Greatest of All Time, solidifying his status as one of the top actors in Indian film.
Beyond Film: A Change in Politics
Vijay has developed a strong public persona outside of films through philanthropy, corporate endorsements, and active fan involvement. He has developed a strong personal brand in addition to a successful film career over the years.
That widespread appeal is now converting into electoral strength as a result of his political decline. What used to influence box office receipts is now influencing political momentum.

As one of his iconic lines from Pokkiri goes: “Nee padicha school la naan headmaster daa” (I am the headmaster of the same school where you attended.) Vijay is currently establishing himself as the next "headmaster" of the political school in Tamil Nadu.
