An era for one of the club's longest-serving members came to an end as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) paid a touching homage to former Head Physio Evan Speechly, who served the team for 18 years from 2008 to 2025. According to a release, Speechly, a pivotal character behind the scenes during RCB's journey spanning seasons, returned to Bengaluru for a special farewell planned by the team, bringing together players and support staff to recognise his work.
Virat Kohli, who led the homage, talked about his relationship with Speechly throughout the years, saying, "I've probably spent the most amount of time with you in the RCB setup." One of the OGs is you.In addition to your diligence and professionalism, your kindness, concern, and integrity will always be remembered. I will always have that with me. It is true that you have always been and will continue to be a member of this family. We will always remember you with love.
Director of Cricket Mo Bobat discussed Speechly's influence, saying: "Evan has been our lead physio for a huge amount of time." In order to honour his work, spend time with him, and commemorate all that he has accomplished for RCB, we wanted to bring him back."
Evan Speechly, moved by the gesture, conveyed his appreciation and strong bond with the franchise: "Yesterday, it felt like home when I stepped inside the hotel.
RCB has always seemed like family to so many of us who have been here for a long time. I've had the good fortune to spend eighteen seasons here, something that every player in the world of cricket would want to do. I will always have a sense of belonging to RCB.
Speechly worked closely with players of all eras during his nearly two decades at RCB, earning him a reputation as a reliable and respected member of the team. The farewell served as a reminder of the individuals that work behind the scenes to create the franchise's culture and legacy as it moves on.
