"It is shameful to have such a pathetic mentality" in the government, said Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray, in response to Madhya Pradesh minister Kailash Vijayvargiya's statement regarding the alleged molestation of two Australian women cricket players in Indore.
On the evening of October 23, two Australian cricket players were returning to their hotel from a cafe when they were 'inappropriately touched' by a man who followed them on his bike during the ICC Women's World Cup in India. Following the registration of a case at the MIG road police station, the accused was taken into custody.
Senior BJP leader and Madhya Pradesh minister Kailas Vijayvargiya responded to the incident by saying that the Australian women's cricket players "should have been more careful."
He claimed that it was a "mistake from their (cricketers') side too" that they had kept their departure from the hotel a secret.
Vijayvargiya went on to say that although the occurrence is regrettable, "the players should also learn from this" and that "I feel that we should also worry about our own safety when we go to another country, or another city."
"As embarrassing as the incident of @AusWomenCricket members is, the Madhya Pradesh minister calling them out and saying it's a lesson to be'more careful' makes it even worse," wrote Aaditya Thackeray on X in response to the minister's comments.
Such comments and "pathetic mentality" are disgraceful to India's image, he said.
"How unfortunate! The Shiv Sena (UBT) leader stated, "It is shameful to have such a pathetic mentality in the government at a time when we bid for the Olympics, Commonwealth Games, and when we invite investors too." Of course, the government will not take any action against him.
