With five golds on the first day of the 4th South Asian Athletics Championships in 2025, India gets off to a strong start.

In Ranchi, competitors will compete for 36 medals in 12 different sports on the second day of the 4th South Asian Athletics Championships 2025. These track and field competitions' finals will start at 5:00 PM.
At the Birsa Munda Football Stadium in Ranchi, India won five gold medals, dominating the first day of the SAAF Games 2025.
On the first day, the hosts won three bronzes, six silvers, and five golds in nine different categories. Prince Kumar of the country won the first gold medal of the competition in the Men's 5000-meter race with a time of 14:22.17 seconds. Vakshan Vicknaraj of Sri Lanka finished in second place, but Prince beat him.

India finished 1-2 in the Women's 5000-meter race, with Sanjana Singh winning the gold medal and Seema, a fellow countrywoman, taking second.
Samardeep Singh Gill won the gold in the Men's Shot Put competition with a throw of 19.59 meters. India also took home silver, with Mithunraj of Sri Lanka taking home bronze and Ravi Kumar coming in second. India's Yogita won gold and Shiksha took silver in the women's shot put competition. In the women's triple jump, Poorva Sawant took home the silver medal. Indian sprinters also took home the gold in the 4X400-meter mixed relay contest.
