A US Navy destroyer stops an Iranian-flagged ship and enforces a port blockade in Iran.

In the course of enforcing Washington's maritime restrictions, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported on Friday that a US Navy destroyer had intercepted a ship flying the Iranian flag.
The guided-missile destroyer USS Rafael Peralta (DDG 115) intervened on April 24 to prevent a ship flying the Iranian flag from sailing toward a port in Iran, according to a statement released by CENTCOM on X.
The US Navy said that the action was a component of the current US naval blockade of Iranian ports, which started earlier in April to limit shipping to and from Iran.
Numerous ships have already been intercepted or turned back as a result of the US's increased enforcement of the blockade.

Fears of conflict have caused a dramatic decline in shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, with only a few ships navigating the tiny chokepoint. According to Lloyd's List Intelligence investigation, six of the seven ships that crossed the strait between April 22 and early April 23 were engaged in trade with Iran, according to Reuters.
A global energy crisis has been brought on by the strait's closure, which has interrupted a fifth of the world's supplies of oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The US and Iran are embroiled in a high-stakes conflict characterised by cautious military actions and ongoing diplomatic exchanges.Disagreements about economic sanctions, regional safety, and freedom of travel hinder the advancement of truce efforts and backchannel talks, leaving the situation unstable and potentially escalating.
Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, meantime, arrived in Islamabad on Friday to meet with Pakistani officials, including Army Chief Asim Munir, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Esmaeil Baqaei, a spokesperson for Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, claims that Araghchi will meet with senior Pakistani officials to discuss Iran's position to put an end to the conflict with the United States and bring about regional peace.
