On Wednesday, in honour of Baishakh Krishna Trayodashi, the PuriSrimandir will perform the Banakalagi rite of the sister deities. As a result, pilgrims' public darshan will be temporarily suspended.
Darshan will be closed for four hours, from 6 to 10 p.m., in accordance with the temple timetable, in order to make the ritual easier to carry out.
Schedule of Rituals and Observances
Following the conclusion of the second Bhoga Mandap sacrifice, the Banakalagi ceremony, also called Shreemukha Shringara, will be performed. The deities will have ceremonial bathing (Mahasnana) and then have their faces adorned during this ritual. The Dutta Mohapatra sevayats customarily carry out the rite, adorning it with natural materials. In addition to other naturally occurring materials, these include conch shell for white, black made from diya, Haritala for red, and Hingula for yellow. In order to safeguard the bodies of the sibling deities, kasturi is also used.
It is anticipated that the entire ceremony will last close to four hours.
Plans for Darshan for Devotees
Devotees will still be able to pray to other deities on the temple grounds, even though the main temple will be closed to the public during the ceremony.
