At the well-known Charchika Temple in Jagatsinghpur, thieves stole gold and silver jewelry from the adored god in yet another incident that suggests temple thefts are on the rise throughout Odisha. According to reports, the incident happened late last night.
Early on Friday morning, the temple workers found the missing ornaments and reported them to the police.
The complaint filed at the Sadar Police Station said that the robbers took various gold and silver jewelry off the idol of Maa Charchika before running away. The late-night hours when the property was comparatively unsecured are thought to have been used by the intruders.
Devotees Experience Widespread Anger Due to Theft
Devotees, who view the Charchika Temple as a significant spiritual landmark in the area, are furious about the occurrence. Locals have called for quick action and more robust security measures, such as round-the-clock surveillance and CCTV.
This robbery occurs within an unsettling trend of attacks on shrines in Odisha. As of June 2025, at least ten temples have been targeted in a six-month period, as noted in OTV's most recent report. This raises an important question: Who is plundering Odisha's faith?
Miscreants often attack at night, smash locks, damage sanctum gates, and flee with ornaments, donation boxes, and other valuables, according to the pattern. In order to save Odisha's cultural and spiritual legacy, devotees have called on authorities to use this as a wake-up call and implement more stringent safety measures.
