In the midst of the ongoing West Bengal Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spent time on the banks of the Hooghly River in Kolkata on Friday, reaffirming his dedication to the growth and prosperity of the state's citizens.
The Hooghly is associated with West Bengal culture, according to the Prime Minister, who posted images from his visit on social media site X. He claimed that Bengalis have a particular place in their hearts for the Ganga and that the soul of an ancient civilisation may be found in its waters.
"The Ganga holds a very unique place in the hearts of all Bengalis. According to PM Modi, "one could say that the Ganga flows through the soul of Bengal." He claimed that in order to show his appreciation to Maa Ganga, he spent time on the banks of Hooghly.
The Prime Minister also spoke with morning strollers along the river and boatmen during the visit. He commended the boatmen's diligence and said the encounter provided him with another chance to reiterate the Center's dedication to the advancement of West Bengal.
"I also had the chance to meet morning walkers and boatmen, whose diligence is admirable. He stated, "On the Hooghly, we reaffirmed our commitment to work towards the development of West Bengal and the prosperity of the great Bengali people."

The visit by the prime minister coincides with the state's Assembly election process. PM Modi has started campaigning for the next election after the first phase. PM Modi stated, "I have heard that even 'jhalmuri' has given certain individuals a thunderous jolt," during the Krishnanagar rally.
For the 294-member West Bengal Assembly, the first round of voting was held on Thursday, and the second round is set for April 29. On May 4, the votes will be counted.
West Bengal had a high voter turnout of 91.91% in the first phase, according to the Election Commission of India. The numbers show that voters are actively participating despite strict security measures in each constituency.
Turnout above 90% in a number of districts. At 94.85%, Dakshin Dinajpur had the greatest attendance, followed by Cooch Behar (94.54%), Birbhum (93.70%), Jalpaiguri (93.23%), and Murshidabad (92.93%). All large districts surpassed the 90% threshold overall, indicating high voter turnout during the first round of voting.
