Voters in Tamil Nadu were able to learn more about their candidates' backgrounds, assets, and criminal histories thanks to a website created by 16-year-old Kapil Bhaskar.
After scanning hundreds of pages of election affidavits, the Class XII student's website, Neeyosi.com, provided the material in clear bullet point style. "I used Artificial Intelligence to scan hundreds of pages and present key details in a nutshell," he told NDTV.
In Tamil, "Neeyosi" means "You Think" or "You Decide." The page quickly gained popularity. More than 70,000 people looked for information about their candidates up until the day before the elections.
"Many people vote mechanically, but it's important to know who you are personally electing," he said.
Kapil aims to raise the bar for transparency. The young person says, "People ought to know what kind of promises these candidates had made in the past and how much they fulfil." They also have to read other people's testimonials.
After perusing the webpage, first-time voters appear to have gained a lot.I was able to learn about the list of parties and independent candidates running from my constituency thanks to its easy accessibility. Niyati, a college student, stated that it is succinct and saves time."It was always so complex that I would spend hours trying to figure out who was in charge of the polls in my neighbourhood. It's very simple with this website. I can now view all the information I require about a candidate's background and educational background in a matter of seconds. Voting now feels easy, according to Sriram Ramaswamy, a seasoned voter in Chennai's Velachery.
The website was created by Kapil for just Rs 1,500, and his parents enthusiastically supported the endeavour."I want to use my computer science and statistics skills to make a positive impact on society and increase my influence in the political sphere," he stated.
