In a huge endeavor to strengthen openness in governance, Odisha Vigilance has detained 270 government and contractual employees across the state during the past one and a half years.
In a written reply, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi claimed in the Odisha Assembly that these arrests were carried out between June 12 last year and December 21 this year. He continued by saying that 31 government personnel who were determined to have engaged in multiple instances of misbehavior had been subject to repeated action.
The Chief Minister further informed that 187 employees had been convicted by Vigilance tribunals for corruption-related charges. Following their convictions, 34 officials have been expelled from service, while 65 staff have had their pensions stopped as part of rigorous disciplinary actions.
Emphasising the Odisha government’s commitment to ensuring a corruption-free administration, Chief Minister Majhi said, “Strict legal action will continue against any official found indulging in unethical practices. Accountability and public confidence continue to be our primary concerns.
The Vigilance department’s expanded operations reflect the state government’s vigorous commitment to maintain clean governance and prohibit misbehavior in public service. With 270 arrests in just over a year, Odisha is sending a strong message that corruption will not be tolerated, and officials found guilty will face serious penalties.
