In poll-bound Bihar, freebies, narcotics, and alcohol were among the ₹34 crore in seizures.

With only a few weeks until Bihar's crucial Assembly elections, law enforcement has begun to tighten down on political parties' attempts to sway voters. Since the October 6 announcement of the poll dates, Bihar has seen the seizure of cash, drugs, alcohol, and freebies totalling ₹33.97 crore.

The Election Commission claims that several law enforcement organisations have conducted seizures and that expenditure observers have already been sent out to keep an eye on the candidates' election expenditures.

Next month, Bihar will have a two-phase election on November 6 and 11, with a vote count on November 14.

Prep to monitor election expenditures
In Bihar, there is a strong system in place to monitor candidates' expenditures on the polls. The Election Commission has underlined that law enforcement officials must conduct inspections and checks without upsetting or harassing regular persons.

The poll board stated that the expenditure observers arrived in the candidates' respective state constituencies on the day the two-phase notification was released and that they would meet with the designated participants.

Additionally, the EC stated that surveillance teams, flying squads, and video monitoring units are always on the lookout for any possible use of cash or other inducements to sway voters.

Additionally, Bihar has started an online system known as the Election Seizure Management System (ESMS), which would facilitate the real-time reporting of interceptions and seizures carried out by law enforcement and surveillance teams.
