Rupu Singh, the primary defendant in the Sundargarh K. Balang landmine explosion case, was released from remand on Thursday. He had been placed under three days of remand by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), where investigators allegedly discovered a number of important details about the incident.
Singh, who was taken into custody on September 9, is charged with providing Maoists with critical intelligence in return for cash. According to sources, his questioning has revealed potential local support systems that the extreme organisation may be using, and additional research is being done to identify additional participants.Background of the Case
The probe concerns an August Maoist-initiated IED explosion between Renjeda, Odisha, and Karampada, Jharkhand.
One railway worker was killed and another seriously injured in the incident that occurred along the Bimalagarh section. Additionally, the explosion severely damaged a section of the railway track.Maoist rebels had stolen explosives from neighbouring mining sites, according to posters found in Banka village, which is under the jurisdiction of K. Balang police. The papers were credited to the Chotanagpur Divisional Committee of the CPI (Maoist) Eastern Regional Bureau, which has released comments denouncing anti-Maoist activities like Operation Kagar.
NIA Investigation and Results
The Bhubaneswar branch of the NIA filed a case and opened an investigation after the event. According to reports, the agency gathered important information regarding the landmine explosions while questioning Rupu Singh.Since then, an NIA team has established a base in Jharkhand to continue investigating the case. A Maoist leader and seven other people thought to be involved in the explosion are currently being sought by the team.
