Following a firecracker explosion on Tuesday that left two young people badly injured, tensions erupted in Puruna Tigiria village, which is located inside the Tigiria police limits in the Cuttack district. Biplab Sahu and Papun Behera, the victims, suffered severe injuries in the incident.
After the explosion, some residents rescued the two injured people, who were then taken to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for immediate medical attention.
Following prompt notification from residents, the Athagarh SDPO conducted a thorough raid in the village with the assistance of officers from the Badamba and Tigiria Police Stations. Many firecrackers were confiscated during the raid.
Four people have been taken into custody by Tigiria Police for interrogation, and they are presently looking into what caused the explosion. The cause of the explosion has not yet been determined.
The local police and the relatives of the victims have nothing to say about this.
Notably, on September 22 of this year, police stepped up their operations and carried out several raids across areas connected to the accused trader, Alok Dutta Tandi, a day after a huge firecracker explosion destroyed a godown in Jiakata-Chhatrapur village of Puranakatak locality in Boudh.
In addition to leaving a woman missing, the explosion had killed two people and seriously injured eight more.
While keeping an eye on the safety of the local population, emergency personnel had persisted in their hunt for the missing individual. While local authorities provided food and shelter for those evacuated, injured residents received medical attention.
Mohan Charan Majhi, the chief minister of Odisha, awarded Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia for the relatives of the two murdered victims after expressing profound sorrow over the occurrence.
