Online tickets for the eagerly awaited India vs. South Africa T20 match, which is set to take place at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on December 9, sold out within minutes of the webpage going live, disappointing cricket fans in Odisha.
Only 2,000 tickets were initially available, despite rumors that over 40,000 fans tried to get seats online. Due to the great demand and the two-ticket limit per person, all of the tickets were almost immediately sold out, frustrating thousands of enthusiastic cricket fans.
"We cannot travel 350–400 km to purchase offline tickets for the game. The number of online tickets should be increased,” said a cricket enthusiast from Rourkela.
Echoing the same, another Rourkela resident said, “I will urge the Odisha government to increase the online ticket counts to 20,000 for the benefit of people who cannot travel several times to book tickets and watch the match.”
Fans who successfully booked their tickets online will be able to acquire hard copies from dedicated counters at Cambridge School, Cuttack, on December 8 and 9. Additionally, Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) affiliated units will have ticket sales on December 4, with 11,000 seats given to them from the total 42,000 tickets available.
General public ticket booths near Barabati Stadium will sell 10,000 tickets on December 5.
The quick sell-out of online tickets emphasizes both the popularity of cricket and Odisha's rising inclination toward digital booking methods, highlighting the significance of a seamless and effective ticketing infrastructure for big sporting events.
