Zahoor Khan, a Pakistan-born UAE bowler, claimed to have helped Jasprit Bumrah develop his slow deliveries. In a viral video, Zahoor claimed that he taught Bumrah how to deliver slower balls with no alterations to his bowling movement during the 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL). Zahoor stated that he was a net bowler for the Mumbai Indians during the UAE phase of the competition, and that Bumrah addressed bowling technique with him. Zahoor told out that Bumrah bowled slower deliveries at the time, but he assisted the India star in improving his mechanics.
Let me tell you a story. Bumrah used to bowl slower balls, but with typical movement. In one of the matches in Abu Dhabi, he, Trent Boult, and Nathan Coulter-Nile let up a lot of runs. The Indian Premier League took place in September of that year. In September, the temperature in the UAE is 50 degrees. It's quite hot. You can't even hold the ball properly at night because it becomes damp."
"So the Mumbai Indians phoned me, I quarantined for six days, and then went to practice on the seventh day. I was with the team that night. Zaheer Khan and Robin Singh knew me from my maiden over in the T10 league. I bowled the first yorker, and the next five were slower deliveries.Zahoor stated that the Mumbai Indians team management was aware of his slower delivery times as a result of his T10 results. He recalls having a lengthy talk with Bumrah and even bowling in the nets alongside the India star pacer.
"I uttered it in the same motion and grasp. He asked, "How is this possible?" I said I'd inform you during practice. He said, "Okay, you have to tell me your grip at the next practice." I said okay. When practice time came, I was bowling. Shane Bond was the bowling coach for the Mumbai Indians. Mahela Jayawardene stood behind the nets. So I arrived and performed a slower bouncer. It defeated the batsmen.
Shane Bond asked, what is your grip? Do you bowl off-cutters? I replied, "No, it's the same grip."
"He responded, 'Show me.' I threw it like this, followed by two or three slower balls. So he informed Jayawardene that this was a fresh development in cricket. He said, "Look how well he bowls slower balls with the same action and arm speed." So, after a day or two, I was bowling alongside Bumrah. So he asked, "Paaji, what is your grip? Show me." So I showed him; it is the same. I tossed it like this; it had to be the same action. So he bowled and announced, "This is the next level thing."I mean, I play for UAE right now, and he's a world-class bowler. So I really liked the fact that he was such a huge star and asked me," he said.
