There is a special context for Shubman Gill's first ODI assignment as captain of India. Two of the most significant leaders in Indian cricket history will be on his team: Virat Kohli, the captain who succeeded Rohit Sharma, and Rohit Sharma, the departing captain. It's a unique time of transition when change and experience coexist in the same dressing room as India begins preparing for the upcoming ODI World Cup, which is still two years away.
However, Gill makes it apparent that his connection with the two veteran players has not changed. "I believe that while the story outside is different, nothing has changed among us. "It's very helpful that everything is the same as it was before," the 26-year-old stated.
"I go to them and ask what they think and how they would do it if they were in my position, regardless of how they feel, what they have experienced, or what they have learned—whether from reading the pitch or from any other circumstance. I enjoy hearing other people's opinions, and then I base my choices on my own interpretation of the game."
According to the new ODI captain, he still has smooth and transparent conversations with Rohit and Kohli. "My relationship with Rohit Bhai and Virat Bhai is excellent. I go to them if I'm unsure about something, ask for their counsel, and they never hesitate to share their thoughts. I believe it to be the true treasure of experience.Gill still cherishes the chance to captain two guys he used to watch and admire from a distance. "It goes without saying that these are the players I used to look up to as a child. They had inspired me with the same type of hunger. Being able to guide such game legends is a great honour for me. There would undoubtedly be a lot of opportunities for me to learn from this series. I wouldn't hesitate to ask them for advice if I found myself in a challenging situation."Gill stated that he sees his promotion as a chance to further the ODI legacy established by his forebears as he gets ready to start his term. "Definitely, it's really thrilling. I have big shoes to fill in order to continue the legacy of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and MS Dhoni. I have learnt a lot and experienced a lot.
"I've spoken with Virat and Rohit a lot about how to move the team forward and what type of culture they would like to see for the Indian cricket team. I believe those insights and experiences will benefit our team in the future.
