The first cricket player from Jammu and Kashmir to represent India, Parvez Rasool, has announced his retirement from all forms of the game, after an incredible 17-year career filled with achievements and steady performances.
The 36-year-old all-rounder from Bijbehara, South Kashmir, who has come to represent hope for future cricket players in the Valley, told the BCCI of his choice. In addition to playing for the Pune Warriors and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rasool represented India in one One-Day International (ODI) and one Twenty20 International.
With 5,648 runs and 352 wickets in First-Class cricket over the years, Rasool made a name for himself as a reliable all-rounder. He won the coveted Lala Amarnath Award for Best All-Rounder in the Ranji Trophy twice, in 2013–14 and 2017–18, thanks to his steady domestic play.
His debut in the national squad and the IPL was made possible by his outstanding 2012–13 season, in which he amassed 594 runs and claimed 33 wickets.
